Buildings are for People. People are zombies. Build for zombies!
PURPOSE:
To create completely intuitive spaces – intuitive being independent of any reasoning process. A Zombie is “a person living in routine, someone whose behavior or responses are wooden, listless, or seemingly rote; an automaton.” Traditional spaces facilitate Zombie behavior on a larger and more generic scale. Undead Design recognizes the achievement of such spaces but attempts to design on a smaller and more customized scale, tailored specifically for a single user. Undead Design will propose designs which are conceptual and often dramatic all the while embracing sarcastic undertones.
SUBJECT MATTER:
Identifying routine (zombie) lifestyle as the most popular way of living, this independent study will focus primarily on generating architecture from studies on Zombie-like behavior. Undead Design will explore how spatial relationships can dictate people’s routines and will propose static architecture with the ability to influence its occupants’ behaviors and actions.
METHODOLOGY:
1. Identify Zombie lifestyle routines.
2. Observe spaces that already foster zombie behaviors (i.e. drive-thru).
3. Catalogue routines classifying them according to criteria based on observations made in earlier studies.
4. Identify the physiology, perception, and role of the user.
5. Explore through models and drawings how spatial relationships foster Zombie behavior.
